UV-Coated Birch Plywood
Mill-applied, UV-cured clear coat over a sanded birch face. It removes a finishing step from your shop — and it removes some options too. Stocked in 15 mm, 4x8, in Houston.
Finished at the mill, not in your booth
The coating is a clear acrylic applied to the sanded face on a roller line and cured instantly under ultraviolet lamps. Because it cures by light rather than by evaporation, it goes on thin, hard and even, with none of the runs, dust nibs or dry times of a sprayed finish.
It leaves the birch looking like birch — the grain and the pale colour read through — with a low sheen and a surface that resists scuffing. Panels arrive ready to cut and assemble.
For a shop without a finishing line, or one whose bottleneck is the booth rather than the saw, that is the whole argument: the finishing step is already done, paid for by the sheet, and it never queues.
Three jobs it is wrong for
- You intended to stain
- A cured UV coat is a sealed surface. Stain will not penetrate it. If colour matters, buy uncoated and finish your way.
- You need to glue the face
- Adhesives bond to wood, not to a cured acrylic film. Face laminations and veneer overlays need an uncoated panel, or the coating sanded back — which defeats the point.
- Edges must match
- Only the faces are coated. Every cut exposes raw core, so exposed edges still need banding or sealing. Plan the cut list around that rather than discovering it at assembly.
We would rather say this before the order than after. If any of the three applies, the uncoated 4x8 BB/BB is the panel you actually want.
Good fits
- Store fixtures and displays
- Cut, assemble, ship. The face survives handling and installation without a protective film.
- Trailer and van interiors
- Wall and cabinet linings that need to wipe clean and take knocks.
- Shelving and storage systems
- Flat-pack products where finishing every panel individually would be the whole margin.
- Exhibition and event build
- Short lead times, no booth time, a clean face straight off the truck.
- Cabinet interiors
- A sealed, wipeable inside face without spraying carcase parts.
- Prototype and low-volume runs
- Where setting up a finishing run for a handful of panels makes no sense.
